Kick off your Sunday shoes and cut loose as the Woodland Opera House 2016-17 season bursts onto the stage with “Footloose”. The show opens on Friday, August 12th and runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.and Sundays at 2 p.m. through September 4th. The production is generously underwritten by St. John’s Retirement Village, Inc.

Based on the 1980’s hit film starring Kevin Bacon, “Footloose” the stage musical sizzles with the same spirit of youth, rebellion, and romance. City boy, Ren (Ryan Everitt) thinks his life is over when he is forced to move to Bomont, an American rural backwater. But things are far worse than he could have ever imagined as he discovers the town has banned dancing. It isn’t long before Ren can’t resist breaking the rules. Joined by the pastor’s rebellious daughter, Ariel (Jordan Hayakawa) the town’s youth begin to cut loose. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father, Rev. Shaw (Mike Maples) longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father that walked out on him. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score “Footloose” is the ultimate 80’s dance musical with a message. Director Crissi Cairns is no stranger to this musical. Cairns starred as Ariel in the 2003 WOH production of “Footloose”. Choreographer Kevin Gruwell (Chesley Award recipient for his performance as Bernardo in the WOH production “West Side Story”) brings a wealth of dance experience to the classic numbers including, Holding Out for a Hero, Let’s Hear it for the Boys, and of course, Footloose. Music direction is by WOH veteran Lori Jarvey (“Grease”, “Mary Poppins”)
